Crime Scene Analysis Forensic Case Management and Procedures

The 5-day course is structured to allow participants, who have previously attended and completed the Investigative Locksmithing – Automotive Forensic Case Management & Procedures Course, to develop an understanding of the procedures in crime scene analysis and gathering of evidence. As part of the course, participants will be eligible to sit the Certified Forensic Locksmith (CFL) examination.

Investigative Locksmithing – Crime Scene Analysis Forensic Case Management and Procedures

PREREQUISITE:
Successful completion of the Investigative Locksmithing – Automotive Forensic Case Management and Procedures.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The training will deliver an understanding of the procedures in crime scene analysis and gathering of evidence.

OUTCOME:
Certificate of Training recognised by ALOA and IAIL, Eligibility to sit the CFL examination.

QUALIFICATION:
The instructors will supervise the participants sitting the written CFL examination on 17 November 2023.

Day 1

Cylinder Manipulation and Bypass Methods

The attendees will learn about different types of locks and techniques for getting past them without using the key. The course will cover covert (sneaky) and forceful (aggressive) methods for circumventing locks.

Participants will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cylinder manipulation techniques, such as picking, which involves using specialized tools to manipulate the pins inside the lock and open it without a key. They will also learn about the examination processes involved in forensic locksmithing, which can help them identify signs of tampering or other evidence related to the lock or the crime scene.

The cases will be analysed from the initial instructions, through to the crime scene investigation and evidence collection process, all the way to the laboratory procedures involved in analysing the evidence and compiling findings.

Participants will be guided through the steps of preparing Court Compliant reports, which must adhere to certain legal and professional standards, and learn how to present their findings in a clear and concise manner. The course will also cover the process of preparing for litigation, including the use of expert testimony and presentation of evidence in court.

Course Revision

The review session will include a mix of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and case studies to help attendees solidify their understanding of investigative locksmithing techniques and procedures. There will also be opportunities for attendees to ask questions and seek clarification on any aspects of the course material they find particularly challenging.

By the end of the review session, attendees should feel confident in their ability to apply the forensic locksmithing techniques they have learned to real-world scenarios and to successfully complete the CFL exam on day five.

CFL Examination

Attendees will have the opportunity to take the Certified Forensic Locksmith (CFL) Examination. This examination is designed to test the knowledge and skills gained through the two training courses.

Upon successfully completing the CFL exam, attendees will receive their certification and be recognised as a Certified Forensic Locksmith. This certification is administered by the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) through the International Association of Investigative Locksmiths (IAIL), and is the most valuable credential for those seeking to work in the field of forensic locksmithing.
